The amount of liquid you choose to use will affect the texture of your rice. A 2-to-1 ratio, liquid to rice, produces soft, tender rice. Chewier rice will result from using a 1-to-1 ratio, or from adding a bit more water. I usually go with a 2-to-1 ratio for cooking a long-grain rice like basmati.
The correct ratio is important to make sure the grains cook perfectly – not too dry or slightly soggy. Stir, cover and cook the rice for 10-12 minutes over a low heat. Remove from the heat, keep covered and leave to stand for 3 minutes. Fluff it up with a fork and serve.
Soak the Rice: High quality rice needs proper soaking and this helps in retaining the aroma and helps the grains expand to the fullest, upon cooking. You will get longer, fluffier and more aromatic rice grains.
This recipe can easily be adjusted depending on how many serving you desire. If you want to increase the amount, just remember the magic rice to water ratio: 1 cup of rice to 1 ½ cups of water. This will give you the best basmati rice every time!
