While the ingredients are very similar to Butter Chicken(Murgh Makhani), there are some distinct differences. To me Tikka Masala is a more intense and robust sauce compared to Butter Chicken which is more mellow. Everywhere I've enjoyed this dish, it is served tossed with green peppers(capsicum) and onions.
About Chicken Shahjahani. It is believed to have been created during the Mughal era. The khansamas (chefs) in the royal kitchen created many dishes to impress the kings. They used exquisite ingredients like saffron, nuts, kewra essence, etc., to make the dishes truly royal.
Murgh (noun.) - In Indian cookbooks, murg is the word used for chicken. The word murg was used in Persia for bird or fowl. Murgi is the Hindi word for the hen.
Butter chicken is not chicken tikka masala. They are two completely different dishes altogether. While both are creamy curries with chicken as their main ingredient, butter chicken typically has more cream added to it than its spicy cuisine.
