Zarda is made with simple ingredients like rice, sugar, and milk, and is often (very aptly) called 'Meethe Chawal', which directly translates to Sweet Rice. Another common name for it is Zarda Pulao, which alludes to the rice being infused with ghee, sugar, spices, and nuts.

How do you make Zarda?
- Boil the rice with the food colouring and cardamom, whilst the nuts and raisins roast in a pan on the side.
- Drain the rice once it's cooked.
- Stir in the sugar and roasted nuts + raisins.
- Let it steam for 10-15 minutes.
Whereas 'Mutanjan' is a variant of zarda having multi coloured rice having all other lawazmat . The addition of meat makes it special. So Zarda is plain sweet rice with nuts etc whereas mutanjan is multi coloured rice having nuts, khoya and meat in it.
