Quick and Easy Chicken Haleem

FAQ

Haleem is made of four main components: Grain: wheat or barley is almost always present. Pulses (such as lentil) and rice are used or not depending on the originating region of a recipe. Meat: usually beef or lamb and mutton; goat meat; or chicken.
It contains Haleem raw mix powder, a combination of ground wheat, barley, lentils and spices, and Haleem meat masala mix, a combination of aromatic spices, nuts and other seasonings. This premix makes it easy to create a traditional dish of Haleem.
Many believe the difference between a Haleem and its ancestor Harees is that while the former is made with mutton, the latter is with chicken. Historians and those in-the-know refute this assumption intensely. Both the Harees and Haleem are made with mutton and wheat.
Though Hyderabadi haleem is the traditional hors d'oeuvre at weddings, celebrations and other social occasions, it is particularly consumed in the Islamic month of Ramadan during Iftar (the evening meal that breaks the day-long fast) as it is high in calories.
