It is a type of roti (or flatbread). In Hindi, dhal means peas, and puri references fried bread. Dhal puri is stuffed with seasoned, ground up yellow split peas. It is served as a side dish and pairs perfectly with mango sour or any type of curry.
Although a puri in itself is a fried unleavened bread, the dhal puri is closer to a paratha than a puri, as it is pan-cooked to perfection and stuffed with a savory and delicious dhal mixture.
