FAQ
Can I use jam as a cake filling? Yes, you certainly can use jam as a cake filling!
Jam is a chunkier, looser-textured version of jelly and contains seeds (think blackberry jam) or small pieces of fruit. Where jelly has to be spread, fruity jams can be spooned over a piece of toast. When making jam, the fruit is chopped or pureed and cooked down with sugar.
Jam is basically just fruit and sugar, so technically you could use it almost anywhere you would normally use sugar.
Jam cakes keep well and taste even better after a few days if covered and kept in the refrigerator (the waiting requires some restraint but is worth it).
Optional: in a little cup mix 1 tablespoon of cornstarch and 2 tablespoons of water, then pour into bubbling fruit stuff stirring constantly for another two minutes.
