French apple tart

FAQ

PiesTarts – If you've ever thought a tart was pie, you're forgiven because they're incredibly similar. The main difference is that tarts only have a bottom crust, and the crust is much thicker than a pie crust.
We're partial to Granny Smith, Honeycrip, and Gala, but you can really use any baking apple that you prefer in this recipe! Use one variety, or a couple to really mix it up and keep things interesting.
It's meant to be a simple, unfussy dessert; apple slices baked under a buttery crust under a blanket of Calvados-spiked cream. The crust on this tart is meant to meld with the fruit and custard filling, not be a completely separate entity. So it's not pre-baked.
For a standard 9-inch pie, heat for 15-20 minutes. To check to see if the pie is hot, just stick a metal skewer or knife through the center, remove and (carefully) touch it to see if the pie filling is warm enough. If it is, your perfectly reheated apple pie is ready to serve and enjoy!
